We are thrilled to extend an invitation on behalf of the California State University (CSU) System, in collaboration with Sacramento State as the host campus, to join us for our 2nd Biennial Juneteenth Symposium.
With 23 campuses serving nearly half a million students, the CSU is the largest and most racially and ethnically diverse four-year public university in the country. It is the universities' core mission to champion inclusive excellence, close equity gaps and advance social mobility for students from all walks of life.
The biennial symposium was first envisioned by CSU student leaders who, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, sought to take purposeful action to combat anti-Black racism, foster authentic intercultural dialogue, and showcase the legacies and contributions of the African American community. Our second Juneteenth Symposium arrives at a momentous time, as the CSU establishes its first system-wide office for Black Student Success and as our campus teams are actively implementing the 13 recommendations of the Chancellor's Strategic Workgroup for Black Student Success in the areas of student outreach, recruitment, enrollment, persistence, success and graduation. During the symposium, we will draw inspiration from a stellar lineup of speakers including Chancellor Mildred García and Pulitzer prizing-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones.
This year's symposium will take place June 13-14, 2024. The livestream link will be emailed to each registrant on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
